What is Gynecomastia?

Sometimes men develop enlarged breast tissues, and it can be of any size on one or both the breasts. This condition, called Gynecomastia, can cause public embarrassment and awkwardness in general. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60% of men and this includes one or both breasts.

What are the causes of Gynecomastia?

While certain drugs can contribute to breast over-development, most cases do not have a known cause. It can due to disorders of the male sex organs, disorders of the endocrine system or can be of congenital origin.

Is there a cure for Gynecomastia?

For most men, surgically reducing and reshaping the breast is the best solution. The procedure involves the removal of fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts, and if necessary, excess skin. The result is a flatter, firmer chest consistent with masculine body contour.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes an hour and a half to complete, although individual factors may increase the length of the surgery.

Surgery involves liposuction techniques through tiny incisions to remove the excess fat. If there is excess breast glandular tissue present, in addition to liposuction, a small incision is placed immediately beneath the areola (the dark skin of the nipple) to directly reduce the excess breast gland.

Imported state-of-the-art liposuction cannulas are used for the procedure so that the scarring is minimized. In cases where there is the considerable amount of excess skin or an enlarged areolar size, an incision that progresses around the areola may be advised to reduce excess skin as well and to further contour the chest.

What should I expect after the procedure?

As with all cosmetic surgery procedures, healing and final results vary from individual to individual. A custom-made compression garment will be worn continuously for two weeks, and for several weeks longer at night. Patients may return to work after three to five days. Light aerobic activity may begin approximately 7 days following surgery, and more strenuous exercise is begun at three weeks.

How much does treatment for Gynecomastia cost?

We understand that the cost of surgery is an important factor for our patients, and may determine whether they can afford to have this procedure. This is why we make every effort to offer the best price possible, taking into account the needs of the individual. Naturally, as each patient has different degrees of Gynecomastia severity, we perform a clinical assessment that gives a precise idea of the amount of fat and gland tissue that needs to be removed.
