  • Earwax-

The ear canal has an outer covering of a skin has glands that produce earwax. One of the very important functions are performed by the ear wax, it cleans and accumulates all the waste that is about to enter the eardrum. Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL) occurs when the transmission of sound in the ear is interrupted or disturbed. They are treatable either medically, surgically or through amplification. Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SHL) occur in the inner area affecting the transmission. They can be treated through Hearing Aids. Mixed Hearing Loss (MHL) is a combination of SHL&CHL. They can be treated with both hearing aids and medical treatments.

Nose bleeding is of two types- Anterior and Posterior. Anterior bleeding can occur due to extreme dryness, a big blow of the nose or due to a sharp fingernail. The blood vessels are broken in the septum, and in case of severe bleeding or blood intake by the throat instead of coming out of it, an ENT Specialist must be consulted since the continuation of the same can lead to dizziness and fainting due to loss of a lot of blood. Posterior Bleeding is comparatively serious and difficult to treat. They occur deep inside the nose and can thus be swallowed at the back of the mouth or throat.

Nasal Obstruction refers to the partial or full blockage of one or both of the air passages of the nasal cavity. Breathing or nasal problems are easily noticeable amongst children. It may even go unnoticed in several cases. The causes can be visible by birth itself (congenital) or can be acquired by anyone later in life. It can occur due to some external particle/ foreign body in the nose, Rhinitis which is swelling or lining of the nose, Nasal Polyps, Choanal atresia, Tumors etc. They can be diagnosed with a physical exam and treated as per the diagnosis in the x-ray of the nose.

Throat-related problems

3. Throat-related problems

  • Dysphagia-

Dysphagia basically refers to difficulty passing food down through the throat. This is most common and not threatening, however, if occurring at a continuous state, then one must consult an ENT Specialist. One of the common reasons of the Dysphagia is due to Gastroesophageal Reflux (discomfort due to movement in the stomach acid). Other reasons include a tumor in the mouth, Progressive Neurologic Disorder, Stroke, esophagus or throat surgery in the neck, head or esophageal areas. Drugs or medication can treat Dysphagia depending on the cause of the discomfort.

  • Tonsils

Tonsils are lymph-like soft tissue situated on both sides of the back of the throat. They can become infected causing health problems. In fact, regular infections can lead to Chronic Tonsillitis as well. It can lead to several difficulties such as breathing problems, choking, noisy breathing or even cancer of the throat/voice box/ esophagus in some rare cases. The ENT Specialist might perform an exam to check the condition and existence of LPR and then might ask you to get some tests done or advice you with the preferred treatment option.

  • Prolonged Sore Throat-

Infections can be caused by either virus such as the Mononucleosis, common cold, flu, or by bacteria such as Mycoplasma, Strep or Hemophilus. While bacteria is expected to respond to antibiotic treatment, viruses are not. Whenever a sore throat becomes severe and prolonged one must consult an ENT specialist in Chennai immediately as it can be an indication of many medical disorders. Some of the symptoms include difficulty in swallowing and breathing, earache, rashes, joint pain, high fever, recurring sore throat and blood in saliva or phlegm.
