Treatment and remedies

The treatment for breast cancer is based upon the type, stage and size of breast cancer. In most cases, women undergo surgery for treating breast cancer. But there are many options available for the treatment of breast cancer such as:

Lumpectomy: Lumpectomy is a surgical method of breast cancer removal. In this surgery, the surgeon removes the tumour and some of the surrounding unhealthy tissues. Lumpectomy is used to remove small tumours. For large tumours, chemotherapy is given first to shrink the size of the tumour.

Mastectomy: Mastectomy is used for the treatment of large tumours. It is a surgical method in which all the breast tissues are removed along with the nipple and lobules. It is a common operation for treating breast cancer.

Sentinel node biopsy: In this surgical method, a limited number of lymph nodes are removed. If cancer is not found in the lymph nodes then there is less chance of existence of cancer in other lymph nodes.

Axillary lymph node dissection: If the cancer is found in some lymph nodes then the doctor may ask to remove some lymph nodes that are additional in the armpit.

Breast removal: In several cases, women may ask for the removal of both breasts. It is mostly done in the case of women who have an increased risk of cancer development.
