How can we prevent Flu?

The only best way to prevent influenza is to get a flu vaccine every year. A flu shot will contain the vaccine for several influenza viruses and reduces the chances of becoming sick.
Some precautions you can take to avoid getting the flu:

  • Wash your hands often.
  • Keep your distance from people who have the flu.
  • Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth

What are the Remedies for Flu?

  • Get lots of rest.
  • Drink plenty of clear fluids -- water, broth
  • Try a humidifier
  • Use saline spray
  • Gargle with salt water

How Is Flu Diagnosed?

It is hard to know for sure you have the flu or a common cold based on just the symptoms. There are tests that can determine if you have the flu. The rapid influenza diagnostic test can produce results in 10–15 minutes but may be inaccurate. Other tests take longer to give results.

How can we treat Flu?

Treating the flu includes drinking lots of fluids, getting enough rest and staying home.
Your doctor may prescribe antiviral medication to treat the virus. Over-the-counter (OTC) medicine can be used to reduce discomfort.

Antibiotics are not suitable for treating the flu. But they may be useful to clear up a related sinus or ear infection.

Does past infection whit flu make you immune to it?

No, because there are many viruses that cause flu. They change from year to year. People who have had the flu or a flu shot in preceding years may get contaminated with a new virus strain.

How serious is the flu?

The flu is unpredictable and can be serious, especially for older people, kids, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions.

Does vaccine protect you throughout the flu season?

Yes. Getting vaccinated will protect you throughout the flu season. Vaccination is the best way to protect you.
