How to Care for Scraping Your Skin/Wound?

Falling down and injuring yourself is common in kids, but even adults succumb to it. Scraping the skin can be painful and cause bleeding too. Some of the things you can do to take care of the condition at home include;

  • Clean the wound with fresh water first
  • Apply some Dettol or any other antiseptic liquid to clean the wound
  • Then you can apply a band-aid if necessary

If the wound seems too deep or if the bleeding doesn’t stop in a few minutes, it becomes necessary to see a doctor.

How to Care When You Twist Your Ankle?

A twisted ankle can occur anytime when you are jogging, running, or walking. While sometimes, a twisted ankle hurts only for some time, some strain remains for a day or two, making it difficult for you to walk. The things you can do at home are;

  • Apply warm or cold compress on your ankle
  • Ice it
  • Keep your foot elevated
  • Apply a crepe bandage for a while (don’t let it sit overnight)
  • Don’t overexert yourself

If the pain is too much or you are unable to walk, it is important to visit your doctor immediately.

How to Care for Burns And Scalds?

If you experience a minor burn, don’t panic. First, move away from the heat source and apply some ice or cold water to the burnt area. This will help provide you with some relief. Finally, you can apply a medicated ointment like burnol to treat the burns. If you experience a lot of pain or the burn is severe, make sure you visit your doctor.

How to Treat Insect Bites?

Insect bites can be painful, especially if the injured area is sensitive like the eyes. The first thing you must do is wash the sting area with soap and water. If you notice that the insect’s sting is still embedded in the skin, remove it very gently. You can do it by gently scraping a flat-edged object, like a spoon. Once the sting is removed, apply an ice pack on the area for 10 minutes to reduce pain and swelling. Finally, apply some calamine lotion and do it multiple times a day.

If you are allergic or notice any serious side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, or if the insect was poisonous, visit a doctor immediately.

A minor injury can be treated at home. However, do not panic and if an injury doesn’t subside in a day or two, make sure you visit a doctor.

When should the bleeding stop?

Bleeding generally stops within 1-9 minutes. To stop the bleeding, you can apply some pressure on the area with a tissue or gauze.

How will I know if I need stitches?

If you see that the cut has gone all the way through the skin, you may need stitches. Also, you might need stitches if the cut is gaping open or you can see the red muscles inside.

How long does it take for the cut to close?

It takes between 8-24 hours.
