What is cystoscopy treatment?

How is the cystoscopy performed?

You are given anaesthesia to avoid pain during the procedure. A diagnostic cystoscopy takes around 5 minutes. It will take longer if biopsies are also performed. While performing cystoscopy, the doctor will do the following:

  • There is a cystoscope that is first lubricated and then put into your urethra to the Bladder.
  • There is germ-free saltwater injected from the cystoscope to the bladder.
  • An inspection is taken inside the bladder and urethra
  • There are various instruments injected in the Bladder, this is done for the removal of tissues or cancerous tumours.
  • The injected liquid is then drained or the doctor might advise you to go to the restroom and drain it

What are the side effects of cystoscopy treatment?

Though complications of the treatment are very rare, they still can happen.
They are the following:

  1. There is an infection in your Bladder
  2. The wall of the bladder might damage
  3. There is certain bleeding coming from the area where a biopsy is done
  4. You might face hyponatremia, which is when the natural balance of sodium in your body changes.

When to see a doctor?

There are certain symptoms due to which you should immediately contact your doctor if you see them after the cystoscopy treatment.

They are the following:

  1. There is severe pain in your bladder when the scope went inside
  2. You are having a fever
  3. There is less peeing after the treatment
  4. Facing chills after the treatment

Does cystoscopy cause pain while performing the treatment?

There might be certain discomfort when the doctor puts the cystoscope inside the urethra. There might be a strong need to feel peeing after the treatment is done. You might also feel a pinch if the doctor performs a biopsy.
When the treatment is performed, after that you might feel that there are burns in your urethra when you go to pee. This will happen for 2-3 days.

How is the ureteroscope different from a cystoscope?

The Uretoscope has an eyepiece and there is a flexible and rigid tube that is present in between and there are certain small lenses with light just like the cystoscope. But the difference comes out in the size, the ureteroscope is lighter and longer than cystoscope to see images or ureter and lining

Do you have to get admitted to the hospital for the procedure?
