Facelift Treatment & Diagnostics in Sadashiv Peth, Pune
Rhytidectomy, which is commonly known as a facelift, is a surgical procedure that helps you shave some years off your appearance and can make you look younger. This procedure can reduce any sagging, and folds of the skin from your face. During the procedure, a flap of skin on each side of your face is taken back and the tissues are altered accordingly while the excess skin is also removed.
Mostly, if a patient is undergoing a facelift, a neck lift may also be performed to ensure uniformity. However, a facelift will not be able to get over any wrinkles or take off the sun damage your skin has seen.
Why is Facelift Performed?
As you grow older, the signs of aging start appearing on your face. Despite several creams and serums, aging cannot be combated. Your skin will slowly start losing elasticity and start becoming looser. Therefore, to overcome this natural process, a facelift can help by reducing any sagging and making your skin tighter. Some of the benefits you can achieve after a facelift include;
- Remove sagging in your cheeks
- Remove excess skin that gets accumulated in the jaw
- Remove the folds of the skin that begin to deepen
- Remove sagging skin and fat from the neck
Are There Any Risks Associated With a Facelift?
Generally, a facelift is a fairly safe procedure, as long as you get it done from a reputed doctor. But, some of the risk factors include;
- Hematoma: Blood gets collected under the skin and causes swelling and pressure
- Scarring: In very rare cases, the incisions can become red and bumpy
- Nerve injury: Nerve injuries can be caused during a facelift, which can be temporary or permanent
- Hair loss: You may experience permanent or temporary hair loss where the incision was made
- Skin loss: Due to the interruption in the blood supply, skin loss can occur, which can be treated with the help of medicines

After the surgery, make sure you talk to your doctor about how to properly take care of yourself to avoid any side effects.
What is the Procedure for Facelift?
Before your procedure, you will be given local anesthesia or general anesthesia to ensure you don’t feel any pain during the surgery. While the local anesthesia only numbs the area where the surgery will be performed, general anesthesia will render you unconscious for a while.
During the surgery, your skin is elevated and the underlying tissues are tightened and sculpted. The fat present in your face and neck may be removed or redistributed. Finally, the facial skin is then re-draped on the face. A facelift generally takes two to three hours but can take longer.
What to Expect After the Procedure?
After the procedure, your wounds will take time to heal. You may experience;
- Mild to moderate pain
- Drainage from the incisions
You may need to go through follow-up appointments after the surgery where your doctor will monitor your healing. To see the results of the surgery, it will take a while. Therefore, don’t get into it expecting immediate results. A facelift is an otherwise safe procedure, but talk to your doctor regarding any concerns you may have to ensure you get your desired results.
Make sure you follow all your doctor’s instructions and avoid intense exercises or wearing makeup till the wound heals completely.
No, the results are not permanent. They will stay for a few years, after which the skin starts to droop again.
Like any other surgery, a facelift also has a few risks. Talk to your doctor for more.
