Regrow Treatment & Diagnostics in Chembur, Mumbai

Regrow

Also known as orthobiologics, regrow is a treatment approach whereby tissues from one part of the body are used to treat injuries in some other part of the body. These consist of blood, fat or bone marrow to treat injuries occurring in bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, spinal disc, etc.

Why does an injury need regrow therapy?

This therapy is needed in the following cases:

  • Some parts like cartilage, meniscus, spinal disc and ligament are unable to heal by themselves due to limited blood supply.
  • Some tissues do not heal adequately or heal in an abnormal way causing the body part to become unstable and unable to carry out normal bodily function. This is primarily applicable to bone, tendon and muscle.

Studies show that regrow has been used for many years and has been proved to be absolutely safe and effective for many orthopedic conditions.

Why is regrow or regenerative medicine needed?

  • ACL injuries: Ligament tears may occur due to sports or road accidents that are repaired by using a muscle graft from the surrounding body part.
  • Meniscal tears: Meniscus is a cushion-like structure in your knee that requires regrow therapy when injured as it does not heal by itself.
  • Non-healing or malunited fractures:
  • It is the most common reason for deploying regrow surgery, i.e. when you have a fracture that is non-healing or wrongly united.
  • Severe pain around your hip and knee joints such as avascular necrosis of the hip bone.
  • Spinal disc degeneration:

Pain and tingling due to age-related changes around your spine prompt orthopedic doctors near you to use regrow surgery to promote healing in the spine and surrounding structures.

When do you need to see a doctor?

If you have any of the conditions mentioned above, consult a doctor.

How is regrow conducted?

  • Your surgeon will cut open a tiny area of the intended body structure and extract a small quantity of tissues under proper local anesthesia.
  • This extracted tissue is processed in a lab to provide the required materials for healing of an injured or non-healing part of your body.
  • After isolation of the tissue components, it is injected or placed into the injured site under local anesthesia and proper aseptic precautions.
  • This body part will then be immobilized or kept in a plaster cast for a few weeks with a few instructions to be followed.
  • You may be discharged within a couple of days.

What are the complications?

You may or may not experience discomfort and pain around the implanted site for a few weeks which is due to the regeneration process. You need not worry as this is the normal process and usually subsides within a few weeks.

You will then be allowed to resume normal daily activities once an X-ray report assures your ortho doctor of proper regrowth on subsequent follow-ups.

What are the benefits of regrow?

  • The near-zero risk of rejection of the cells or tissues used in the injured site as your own tissues are used.
  • The infection rate is less.
  • The injured site heals at a much faster rate.

Conclusion

Regenerative medicine is an upcoming approach that has excellent results and brings about a major change in one's life. A regrow procedure helps in regeneration or regrowth at the affected site by triggering tissue cells to restart the process of growth. It provides the necessary nutrition required to regrow which enhances stability at injured or non-healing sites.

Will I be able to get back to my normal routine after undergoing regrow?

With proper follow-up and physiotherapy sessions, one can get back to daily activities in no time.

Is regenerative medicine restricted to some age groups?

No. This procedure can be done for nearly all age groups with prior assessment of any risk factors present.

Are there any side effects associated with this surgery?

There are almost no documented side effects but with proper assessment and precautions any side effect can be substantially minimized.
