The procedure involves first cleaning the penis, then applying local anesthesia or a numbing cream to the penis. A bell-shaped clamp or ring is put under the foreskin to remove it from the penis. Then some ointment and gauze are put to cover the wound. For an infant, this procedure takes 10 minutes. For an adult, it takes up to 45 minutes.

After the surgery, your penis might get swollen or become red. It is normal and nothing to worry about. The wound takes up to a week to heal. For your infant, you can wash the penis gently with lukewarm water. Then apply an antibiotic cream and put gauze on it. For adult males, put ice on the wound for 10 to 20 minutes on the first day.
