Dr Karthik Kailash

Dr.K. Karthik Kailash the current Prof and head of Spine Surgery in Sri Ramachandra University Chennai has over twenty five years of experience in Spine Surgery. He has extensively travelled all over the Globe to learn train, lecture and demonstrate spinal surgical skills to trainees all over. He was also the Lead spine surgeon in the treatment panel for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2009, apart from being the UN/WHO consultant for setting up the Referral Spinal center In Namibia for southern Africa in 2012.
He has been instrumental in setting up the Division of Spine Surgery at the Sri Ramachandra University which has been recognized as a center of excellence for spine surgery and hosts numerous trainees and junior consultant orthopaedic in the visitation and training programme for young spine surgeons.

His special interests are working with children with Spinal Deformity (scoliosis and Kyphosis) and in minimally invasive spine surgery. He has been a national and international faculty for many deformity correction and minimally invasive spine surgery meetings. He has numerous presentations and publications to his credit and has been involved as a thesis guide for many post graduate trainees in Orthopaedics.

He has also been the Examiner for the exit exam for the fellowship in spine surgery in India. He has authored Chapters in over 5 text books, has over 40 publications and numerous presentations and two Orations
He has been recognized as the pioneering spine surgeon in Chennai in developing new techniques and is also a visiting faculty at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai,India.

He is presently the President of the Chennai Spine Society and also the Executive Committee member of the Association of Spine Surgeons of India apart from being a part of the committee for the formation of guidelines for the Fellowship in Spine Surgery in India. He was also the founding national core committee member for establishing the Minimally Invasive Spine Society of India. He is also the Chairman and Chief Trustee of the KK Spine Foundation a non profit social service organization which helps in the awareness, education and treatment of patients with spine problems.

• MBBS - Madras Medical College, 1985    
• Diploma in Orthopaedics and spine fellowship - Allegeimeines Krankenhaus (AKH)      
• MCH in Orthopaedics and underwent spine fellowship training - University of Dundee and USA with Dr Steffe the pioneer and originator of the Steffee pedicle screw system, 1998

Mallon’s Trophy for being the best outgoing student of the Don Bosco school, Egmore Chennai he has also been the recipient of many awards from various organizations
Interestingly Dr. Karthik Kailash is the current National Champion in tennis men over 55 years and has been winner of many tournaments in tennis apart from being part of the Indian Universities tennis team and the State tennis team. He has also been a member of the Indian tennis team for the World Master’s.Championships
His dream is to set up model state of the art Spine centres in rural and periphereal centers in India to provide low cost quality treatment for the poor of India
